Each book in the series contains a combination of original documentary 
material, extracts from modern historians, and questions, and is divided 
into ten or eleven sections each dealing with a major topic or theme from the 
period concerned.
The series has been conceived with changing trends in history 
examinations at 18 plus in mind and concentrates on introducing the student to 
a wider range of historical sources than that to be found in the 
standard textbook. The extracts have been chosen to illustrate the changing 
opinions of historians on major topics, and to encourage the student to 
assess the nature and reliability of evidence.
Each section is preceded by an introduction and guidance is provided on 
selected further reading.
