the Venetian army.  He is also the man chosen by the independent-minded 
Desdemona as her husband.

Next in command to Othello are 2 men: the engaging Cassio and the 
ambitious Iago. Lago is full of malice, and his hatred for Cassio and 
Othello eventually impels him to conceive of a scheme to destroy them 
both.

Under the colour of loyalty and love, he sets out to make Othello jealous of 
Cassio, and so artfully does he raise suspicions in the unguarded Othello, 
that the poor man loses all content of mind and is finally driven to the fatal 
decision to murder his innocent wife.

While Othello is at this deed, Iago's plot starts to go awry.  But he cruel truth 
is revealed too late and so anguished is Othello he falls upon his own sword.  
With his death this tragedy of love turned tool of destruction concludes, all 
that remains is for the punishment of he who made it so.
