The Winter's Tale is a cautionary tale of love and jealousy. Leontes, King of 
Sicilia, lived in blissful harmony with his queen Hermione, and wanted for 
nothing except to see his dear friend Polixenes, King of Bohemia.

On the long-awaited occasion of their reunion, however, Leontes is 
bedeviled by the vilest jealousy, and dark indeed are the days that follow: 
Polixenes flees; Hermione is imprisoned and her new-born daughter 
abandoned to perish; the young prince dies of grief and is followed quickly, so 
it is told, by Hermione herself. Regaining his senses at last, Leontes 
sinks into a bitter repentant grief.

As the years pass, trouble also finds its way to Bohemia. Polixenes' son, 
Florizel, falls in love with the enchanting daughter of a local shepherd. 
Discovered by the wrathful king, they flee to Sicilia and seek the protection of 
Leontes. There, the fates suddenly turn kind, delivering those whose 
sorrow have burdened a happiness beyond all expectations.
